Patrick Swayze

The popular actor died Monday after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

For those of us whose formative years happened to fall during the 1980s, Patrick Swayze was our quintessential leading man. From his role as tough big brother Darrel to fellow '80s heartthrobs Rob Lowe and C. Thomas Howell in The Outsiders, to southerner Orry Main in the popular miniseries "North and South" - he was everywhere. His career, like any other, definitely had its ups and downs but to many, he'll be best remembered as rebellious dancer Johnny Castle in 1987's Dirty Dancing.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner" may be one of the most-quoted movie lines of the last 25 years, but it's Swayze himself who really left an impression on an entire generation.

In tribute, we take a look back at his lengthy career.

In which role will you remember him most? Tell us below.

    • Point Break and The Beast. 'Cause in those he's mature, sexy, and edgy, but also retains that southern charm.

    • Not necessarily a favourite but no one's mentioned a 1987 film Patrick was in called Steel Dawn - He is the desert warrier, carving the future with his sword. It's out on DVD. He was 22 years younger. Wow !!

    • The first time I noticed Patrick Swayze was in North and South as Orry Main. However, the most memorable performance I believe was in Dirty Dancing. I've watched it many times and own the video. I also enjoyed him in Ghost.

    • The most memorable Patrick Swayze movie for me was definitely Dirty Dancing, though Road House is a close second. He was incredibly hot and sexy in both of those roles! Bad guy who's a good guy.. I always thought he was the sexiest man alive.
