Scream

Neve Campbell and Rose McGowan in 'Scream'

-- Neve Campbell joins the fourth Scream movie no one asked for Studio head Bob Weinstein told Variety that he's "going back to doing what [he does] best," which apparently means genre films for Dimension Films, starting with a fourth installment of the once-popular Scream franchise. Apparently Wes Craven is in talks to return as director and Neve Campbell will join already-confirmed Scream-ers Courteney Cox and David Arquette for the first of what will apparently be a new trilogy. Weinstein also revealed that Robert Rodriguez is writing Spy Kids 4, in a partnership with Disney, and Dimension is looking to make Halloween III, both to be released in 3D, as well as a remake of classic creeper Children of the Corn. "I'm heading back to my franchise films," Weinstein added, which includes plans for sequels to Hellraiser and Scanners, again in 3D, and remakes of Short Circuit and An American Werewolf in London. "These films are our strength, and we are committed to doing them in style." He added: "I am eager to expand our scope in the 3D business." You don't say...

-- (500) Days of Summer scribes get TV show They may not be household names just yet but Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber are behind a new ABC show centered on young adults that could end up being your new favourite show if the clever writing and realistic dialogue they crafted for Summer is any indication. The perhaps unfortunately-named "Friends with Benefits" deals with a subject the duo know and enjoy dissecting - relationships. "It's about a group of twentysomethings at a point in their lives that everyone can relate to, when they ask questions like: 'Is this your girlfriend or someone you just hang out with? Is this a job, or is this a career?" Weber told The Hollywood Reporter. "We will be tracking their lives and the decisions they make." Before you go and claim firsties for CBS's funny and NPH-starring sitcom "How I Met Your Mother", it seems this show will be more concerned with "how guys think about sex and relationships", according to Imagine TV's Brian Grazer. Whether or not that makes it aces or a definite pass in your books will be seen once the single-camera pilot is filmed, with Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin behind the camera.

-- Barbie heads to the big screen Already living the Hollywood lifestyle for some time now, Barbie will be doing it in style when she makes her live-action big-screen debut. Her foray into the moving pictures follows popular toys of yesteryear turned summer blockbusters like Transformers and G.I. Joe and follows a trend of popular family-friendly brands making the leap to the multiplex, with Hasbro planning on Monopoly, Battleship and Candyland features with Universal. Though Barbie has been in dozens of animated straight-to-DVD movies, the news that she's coming to life in the movies shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering she has a Twitter account, Facebook profile and still looks fabulous after just celebrating her 50th birthday.
