So in taking a brief and much needed pause from our coverage of the lead up to TIFF, it turns out that movie news is still flying in fast and furious...imagine that! So here's some of the latest news to pop on our Big Screen Buzz radar:
-- According to Variety, Daniel Craig is set to star in a new psychological thriller from Irish director Jim Sheridan (In America, In the Name of the Father), tentatively titled Dream House. The film will follow a New York publishing giant who finds that the New England house he's moved his family into was once the scene of a notorious and gruesome murder. My guess is things don't go well from that point on! While the concept doesn't sound new, with Sheridan and Craig involved, I think it's a safe bet this won't be a regular, run-of-the-mill Amityville Horror knock off. Speaking of Craig, Daniel Craig...check out the first-look pic that Entertainment Weekly has of the actor (alongside Hugh Jackman) in his Broadway debut, "A Steady Rain". The mustache alone is worth a look!
-- Time to bring "what's your damage?" back into your common lexicon, 'cause it looks like Heathers is getting a revamp! And no, we don't mean that fabled movie remake. Fox has announced they are moving forward with plans to turn the '80s cult hit into a prime time television series. To get you up to speed if you're one of the few who missed it, the original story followed Veronica Sawyer (played in the original by Winona Ryder) as she dealt with a severely mean high school clique of girls -- in a truly groundbreaking way. The clique members, all known as Heather, start dying at the hands of Veronica and her rebel boyfriend J.D. (played by Christian Slater), who make them seem like suicides. Not sure how they plan to re-invent the plot so it's more small screen friendly...but as long as the characters keep that especially dark and snarky tone, I'm willing to give it a shot. How about you?
-- Speaking of slightly twisted, it looks as if Rob Zombie is going to add another horror remake to his resume. He's signed on for the remake of the frightful 1958 classic The Blob. The original starred Steve McQueen in one of his first leading roles as well as the giant red blob itself. That's the first thing Zombie says is changing in his reinvention...although change it too much and he'll have to come up with a new title. Might I suggest The Thing Formerly Known as The Blob as a starting point. Halloween II, his latest remake, hits theaters today.

-- He may only be 38 years old, but Matt Damon's made enough of a mark on the industry that he's set to receive his first Lifetime Achievement Award. The American Cinematheque Award, given out annually to artists who are "committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion pictures" will be broadcast in prime time on ABC (AMC had hosted the event in previous years) and as such, the ceremony has been pushed back to March 27, 2010 so that it won't compete with the rest of the award season. This may be the first award the actor has received dedicated to his full body of work, but he's no stranger to highly sought accolades! Damon, along with writing partner and fellow actor Ben Affleck, took home the Oscar for Best Screenplay for their film Good Will Hunting over ten years ago. Past honorees include Samuel L. Jackson, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Al Pacino, Steve Martin, Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster. Not a bad group to be a part of! Damon is set to appear at the 34th Annual Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto in September to promote his latest collaboration with Steven Soderbergh, The Informant!. Check out who else is hitting the Red Carpet at TIFF!
