Hilary Duff

-- Duff to guest on “Gossip Girl” The former tween queen is all grown up and heading to the cattiest show on TV. Hilary Duff will guest on the popular show about privileged New Yorkers, where she'll play an actress looking for a "typical college experience" alongside Serena, Blair, Chuck, Dan and Nate. The 21-year-old singer/actress stars as Olivia Burke, a student at NYU who ends up being roommates with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and becomes romantically involved with aspiring writer Dan (Penn Badgley). Of course, this could pose a problem with her new roomie, who also had eyes for Dan, and fans know that Gossip Girl will be all over that sticky situation. Duff's guest spots begins airing October 5.

--So the rumours were true: Holmes to perform on SYTYCD A few weeks ago, we reported that one former “Dawson's Creek” babe was taking meetings with “So You Think You Can Dance” judge/producer Nigel Lythgoe at an L.A. dance studio, getting tongues a-waging that Mrs. Tom Cruise wanted to show off her dancing chops on the massively popular Fox show. Well, lo and behold, the 30-year-old actress will take to the stage July 23. Katie Holmes will appear on the show's 100th episode, paying homage to, wait for it, Judy Garland in a taped routine, singing and dancing to the legend’s classic number, Get Happy. The guest spot serves to promote Dizzy Feet, a nonprofit program which Holmes, Lythgoe and “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba launched together, which helps to support dance education and programs for the underprivileged.

-- Jackson memorial set for Tuesday After much speculation, a date, time and place has finally been set for Michael Jackson’s public memorial. The service for the late pop music genius will be held Tuesday, July 7 at the Staples Center in downtown L.A., and tickets, thankfully, will be free, although how they will be allocated remains to be seen. Of course, concerns have already been raised about crowd control issues, with L.A. city councilman Dennis Zine pointing to the overlap of the Independence Day weekend and insufficient planning time for his concern regarding such a predictably massive event. Jermaine Jackson recently told Larry King that the family plans to have a special private ceremony before the public memorial and said that they are looking into having similar ceremonies outside of the U.S.
