Ryan Reynolds

-- Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern Though the role had been widely rumoured to belong to The Hangover's charming lead Bradley Cooper, and a lesser extent “My So-Called Life”’s Jared Leto, it's Canadian funnyman Ryan Reynolds who will be stepping into the skin-tight spandex costume for the DC Comics adaptation. The Vancouver native won the coveted role of the man with the mystical green ring who leads an intergalactic police force in the fight for peace. Casino Royale director Martin Campbell will step behind the camera and Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters", "Eli Stone"), Michael Green ("Heroes") and Marc Guggenheim ("Eli Stone", X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will tackle the script. This casting coup caps off a rather successful run for the handsome 33-year-old, whose summer has included playing Deadpool in Wolverine and starring alongside Sandra Bullock in the $100 million grossing rom-com The Proposal. Reynolds is next set to begin filming the decidedly dark drama Buried about a U.S. contractor who gets, you guessed it, buried alive in Iraq.

-- Maura Tierney speaks out about health issues A few days after NBC announced they would be delaying the launch of their new series “Parenthood” for eight weeks because of an undisclosed illness that befell one of the the show's stars, Maura Tierney ("E.R", Liar, Liar) is speaking out about her health. "I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery," Tierney said in a statement. "I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon." The drama, based on the 1989 movie starring Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen, has already been pushed back once after the unexpected passing of NBC vice-president Nora O'Brien on the set of the show in April. “Parenthood” revolves around four siblings, played by Tierney, Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard and their parents - Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson. The show is now set to premiere September 23.

--Sarandon and Goodman join You Don't Know Jack With a name like that, who would have guessed that the Jack in question is none other than Dr. Death himself, Jack Kevorkian? Susan Sarandon and John Goodman join the cast of the drama that profiles the pathologist who assisted 130 terminally ill patients commit euthanasia and was a staunch defender of their right to die. Al Pacino will play the notorious doctor who spent eight years in jail for second-degree murder after helping one of his patients end his life, while Goodman stars as lab tech Neal Nicol and Sarandon joins as fellow activist Janet Good. You Don’t Know Jack, an HBO film, will be directed by Barry Levinson (Sleepers, Wag the Dog) with a script by Adam Mazer based on the biography Between the Dying and the Dead: Dr. Jack Kevorkian's Life.
