Sure, Tinseltown is filled to its Botoxed gills with beautiful people of the breathtaking and unrealistic variety, making a comprehensive Top Ten list a challenge and then some. Luckily, we at Cineplex are not easily deterred and weeded through countless photos and skimmed through myriad bios to select a handful of gorgeous gents and alluring men who not only look delicious on-screen but also bring it when it comes to their chosen craft.

10. Daniel Day-Lewis This man personifies the term dapper gent. A method actor to the nth degree, he often remains in character for the entirety of a movie’s shoot and whether he's portraying a vicious hoodlum or a murderous oil tycoon, one thing’s for sure, they’re always absurdly good-looking underneath all that immorality. The quirky-dressing Brit – did you see his plaid suit? – has smiling eyes, a strong, etched jaw and cheekbones you can set your watch to and, oh yeah, that accent. True, he's 52 - but if that's what middle age looks like, then hello twilight years!

9. Emile Hirsch Equal parts River Phoenix and Marlon Brando, he’s quickly worked his way up the ranks of Hollywood’s A-list, moving from teen comedy to the lead role in a Sean Penn-directed movie and then working alongside the iconic actor/director in last year’s astounding Milk . The 24-year-old often plays moody, rather passionate characters who are misunderstood – and extraordinarily attractive. Hirsch was revelatory and beyond handsome in Into the Wild , rocking a five-day beard like it was going out of style. He next plays a (largely shirtless) Vietnam vet in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock and I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.

8. Ryan Reynolds Boy, Van Wilder sure has come a long way. As the wise-cracking, man-boy at the centre of the popular cult comedy, Reynolds proved that he could bring the funny but had yet to realize his fully handsome potential. A few years, and countless sit-ups, later and he was all square jaw and rippling muscles and, luckily, still funny. (It’s easy to see why ScarJo locked this one down.) Reynolds earned his place on this list thanks to an insanely sculpted physique, a seeming absence of ego and the fact that he looks incredibly hot whether in a simple tee or tailored suit..or shirtless and dripping with sweat a la Amityville Horror remake - don’t pretend you weren’t thinking it.

7. Mos Def Before he was Arthur Dent’s interplanetary buddy in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , Mos Def (Dante Terrell Smith to his mom) was a Grammy-nominated rapper whose talent behind the mic was reason enough to stand up and take notice. Thankfully someone had the good sense to cast this cutie in movies (Cadillac Records, Be Kind, Rewind) and let him shine in front of the camera. A lovely set of lips, adorable dimples and great style makes him, mos def, a Hollywood hottie.

6. Brad Pitt While an admittedly obvious choice, when we’re on the subject of celebrities whose mere mention translates to quickened pulses and clammy palms, he’s a must-have. The blue-eyed, blond-haired father of a hefty brood, and husband to The Hotness herself, has a classic look that is hard to deny. Not that he hasn’t tried to convince us otherwise. Pitt seems to enjoy subverting his pretty-boy image but with those matinee idol looks, neither a ZZ Top beard nor chipped teeth and lazy eye will ever make him less than truly gorgeous.

5. Robert Pattinson If you can hear me above your own racing heart, the clicking of keys as his name is Googled another million times and the girlish screams that escape even middle-aged women’s lips, then you’ll know I’m talking RPattz. This 23-year-old Brit was paying his dues with supporting roles in Harry Potter and smaller indie fare (How To Be) but once he starred as devastatingly handsome Edward Cullen in the breakout hit Twilight , he skyrocketed to a level of hysteria that few actors ever experience. Visibly uncomfortable in most interviews, this reluctant celeb is still trying to come to terms with girls wanting to rip his clothes off - literally - but with his sizzling looks, he’s probably better off just buying more shirts.

4. Gael Garcia Bernal I’m going to do my best not to lapse into some sloppy Spanish clichés while describing one of the best-looking men to hit the silver screen in the past decade. Making his feature film debut in 2000’s Amores Perros, it wasn’t until a year later that he made an undeniable impression on viewers everywhere in the sexually charged road movie Y tu mamá también . An effortless intensity behind his green eyes, a seriously kissable pout and a sly smile, not to mention the inherent sensuality of his native tongue, makes this Mexican actor a feast for the eyes and ears.

3. James Franco With a mile-wide smile and bedroom eyes, he is the reason this girl went to see Pineapple Express – twice. Who else could pull off matted hair, a sweatband and the worst pair of flannel pants this side of a first-year dorm room? Although he gained notoriety for portraying James Dean thanks to an uncanny resemblance, most twentysomethings likely first fell for Franco when he portrayed jerky but loveable Daniel Desario in the acclaimed series “Freaks & Geeks”. He hit the mainstream with his appearance in the Spider-Man series and is set to impress again with a starring role as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl , which will trace the obscenity trial spurred by Ginsberg’s controversial, sexually explicit poem.

Johnny Depp He’s been a teen heartthrob, a rebel, a musician, a reluctant celebrity, a caring dad and an unexpected box office boon and throughout his varied career, and he's done it all with style and abandon. Though he doesn’t look a day over 30, despite being on the cusp of 50 (!), he exudes the earned coolness of a man who knows who he is and doesn't give a damn what you think. But don’t get me wrong - Depp earned his place on this list thanks to those cheekbones and his ability to look delectable for the past 30 years.

1. Adrien Brody Oh, those puppy dog eyes. No one does charmingly vulnerable quite like this Oscar winner. The New York native made his mark as the mohawked punk-rocker in Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam (1999) and even with a sky-high bleached-out ‘do, Brody’s chiseled good looks shone through. Astonishing critics with his role in The Pianist , Brody has continued to wow with his acting chops and, unsurprisingly, moonlighted as a model for various clothing companies, because, well, dude knows how to wear a suit. Did anyone else want to give him a big hug when things all went to hell in The Darjeeling Limited ? I thought so.
