Sean Penn

- Sean Penn take a break from the big screen. According to a spokesperson for two-time Oscar winning actor, he has dropped out of filming the recently announced Three Stooges adaptation as well as quitting his role in the upcoming action flick Cartel. Penn made headlines earlier this year when it was announced he would star as famous Stooge Larry alongside Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey - no actor has yet been pegged as a replacement. Penn's camp did not specify the reason for the abrupt announcement (although many are assuming it's to concentrate on his current family troubles) but did say that if the films were to be postponed, the actor would continue in his planned roles.

- Christopher Mintz-Plasse gets more than he bargained for on Year One junket! The comedic actor was left red-faced during a recent appearance on New York's Fox 5 - after the interviewer hit him for making a joke suggesting her daughter was sexually active. In a scenario slightly reminiscent of the recent Letterman-Palin brouhaha, reporter Rosanna Scotto (formerly of The Today Show) talked to the actor over rumours his mum watches all of his sex scenes. She commented, "I know she sat in, which I feel is a little strange being a mum too, she sat in on that sex scene in Superbad." Mintz-Plasse jokingly replied, "That's not normal? Mums don't sit in on their kids having sex? Come on, you've seen your daughter having sex!" Scotto immediately took offense, lashing out and hitting the actor in the leg while shouting, "No, my daughter has not!" Ummm...awkward!

- Universal revives its horror classics! - The studio's black and white monster movies deserve a special place of honour in the history of cinema. They were insanely popular back in the day so it's not a huge surprise that Universal is looking to replicate that success with modern movie-goers. They have their first re-make hitting theatres this fall - a remake of the classic Wolfman with Benecio Del Toro starring as the hirsute legend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio also has announced plans to revisit The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Bride of Frankenstein.
