-- Kristen Stewart debuts Joan Jett look The Twilight star has finally emerged from beneath hoodies and ponytails to reveal her new, tattered 'do, dyed black and haphazardly shorn to play Joan Jett in the forthcoming biopic The Runaways . Music video director Floria Sigismondi is at the helm of the pic that follows the story of the real-life all-female group The Runaways, obvs, as they navigate fame and feuds during four-year run on the top of the charts. The film also stars Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and newcomer Stella Maeve as Sandy West. What do you think of her look? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
-- You can call me Chaz Chastity Bono is having a sex change to become a man. Coming out as a lesbian over 20 years ago, the daughter of the late Sonny Bono and superstar singer Cher has, according to a spokesman, "made the courageous decision to honour his true identity" and began the sex-change process earlier this year. Publicist Howard Bragman said Bono, who is now going by the name Chaz, "is proud of his decision" and hopes "that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue." The 40-year-old writer, activist and reality-TV star has long been on the front lines of gay advocacy, beginning work with GLAAD in 1995 and penning several books about his experience coming out to his family and memoirs of past relationships. No statement has been released from Cher, or her representatives, as of yet.
-- Madonna's Malawi adoption approved Though Madonna's original adoption request was rejected due to concerns about her place of residence being outside of Malawi, a three-judge panel has granted her a full adoption, according to her lawyer Alan Chinula, who said he told Madge of the news "in the wee hours of morning in New York, but she is excited at the news." Madonna already has one adopted child from the region, David Banda, and sought to add to her brood with three-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James, whom she met at an orphanage in 2006. Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo, read the court's ruling, explaining that the law's interpretation had to be re-evaluated since "in this global village a man can have more than one place at which he resides" adding that Madonna was in "Malawi not by chance but by intention" and "can therefore not be described as a sojourner." Of course, not everyone is celebrating. James Kambewa, a man claiming to be Mercy's father, decried the news, telling CBS "I'm crying. I need my baby. I don't know where I can find any help," despite the fact that an uncle went on record as saying the family approved of the ruling. Those concerned that Madonna's celebrity was interfering with the rules meant to protect children were not completely satisfied, saying Friday's ruling "disregarded" international agreements on children's rights and adoptions. Chinula will now begin the process of seeking a passport for Mercy and making travel arrangements with the Material Girl.
