In an industry where beautiful people reign supreme, it takes that special something to stand out from the crowd. Sometimes it’s an indefinable quality, sometimes their talent in undeniable, and for others their confidence knocks it out of the park. But usually it’s a combination of factors plus that one extra ingredient that makes them, well, hot. We’ve narrowed down a list of some of the biggest names in Hollywood to the 10 women who’ll make your head spin. They scorch up the big screen, guys want to be with them and girls want to be them:

Freida Pinto - The BAFTA-nominated sensation who has taken the industry by storm started her career as a model and television host, so it's no surprise that she's got confidence and sex appeal to spare. But it was her turn as Latika in Slumdog Millionaire that made people around the globe sit up and take notice. She’s been popping up on Hot lists ever since and it’s only a matter of time until this exotic stunner jumps right to the top. Why? Because Freida is smokin’ hot. And yes, that is our final answer.

9. Angelina Jolie - This one's a no-brainer. We've seen the actress go through a plethora of different looks over the years (the weird Billy Bob phase still has us shaking our heads) but somehow she has remained a bonafide hottie throughout. From her time as the unbelievably curvaceous adventurer Lara Croft or as kick-ass super-spy Mrs. Smith to her more recent turn as Mrs. Pitt, humanitarian and sexiest mom alive, she's consistently the epitome of seemingly effortless sensuality and confidence. Zoe Saldana – From her sexy turn in the Pirates of the Caribbean films (watching someone rough up Johnny Depp has never been so hot) to her recent role as ultimate sci-fi hottie Lieutenant Uhura in the reboot of the Star Trek franchise, Zoe Saldana exudes sex appeal. She’s a classically trained dancer, which explains the killer body, but it’s her intensely gorgeous eyes that are the envy of many. And by many, I mean me. She may be new on most people’s radar but look for her to give those in the top spots a run for their money as her star rises.

7. Kate Beckinsale – If there's anything that turns heads more than a pretty face and a rockin' bod, it's a girl who can kick ass. At first glance, Beckinsale might seem like a dead ringer for the quintessential English rose but the actress has proved she can hold her own, action-wise, all the while clad in the sexiest of black latex catsuits. Her Underworld role was a revelation and she’s been heating up the screen ever since, even managing to convincingly channel classic Hollywood hottie Ava Gardner in The Aviator (2004). While she’s been tackling less overtly sexy roles of late, there’s no doubt that every time she steps on a red carpet, she’s still the stuff fantasies are made of.

6. Jennifer Aniston - It's no secret that the former Friend is one funny lady, but her girl-next-door appeal doesn't stop with her sense of humour. She's twice been named in People's 50 Most Beautiful People list and consistently appears on both FHM and Maxim's ultimate females yearly lists. It’s been years since the “Rachel” took the styling world by storm and although the hair has changed, the hotness factor has remained and kept her firmly in the sexy spotlight. Clearly John Mayer didn't know a good thing when he had it.

5. Penelope Cruz – She may have dated two of the Sexiest Men Alive but this Academy Award-winning actress deserves a title of her own. She has occupied every list of Hollywood’s hottest stars since her breakthrough role in the Spanish feature Jamon, jamon (1992) brought her to the attention of movie fans around the world. The film transformed Cruz into an international sex symbol overnight and she continues to make collective jaws drop and heads turn with each successive movie role (Vanilla Sky, Blow, Volver) and red carpet appearance. The accent doesn’t hurt either.

Eva Mendes - A confident stunner not afraid to use her physical blessings for a good cause or for the sake of art, she appeared totally nude in a recent PETA ad and again stripped down for a Vogue photoshoot and a too-hot-for-North-America Calvin Klein fragrance ad. Clearly a strong believer in the old adage "if you've got it, flaunt it", we can hardly blame the busy actress (who's also made repeat appearances on FHM and Maxim's Hottie lists for the past seven years). If we had her banging bod, you’d have to pay us to keep our clothes on!

3. Scarlett Johansson - A former child star, ScarJo has blossomed into a voluptuous classic Hollywood beauty before our very eyes. While her...ahem...assets are readily apparent, it's that sultry come-hither voice of hers that pushes her right over the top. I think Jon Favreau, her director in the upcoming Iron Man 2, said it best in his Twitter from the set: "Scarlett's first day on set in the Black Widow outfit. You've never heard a crew get so quiet so fast." Hotness that renders observers speechless? I think that gets her a pass onto this list for years to come. Well that and the fact she snagged Ryan Reynolds. Kudos, ScarJo, way to use your powers for good and not evil.

2. Malin Akerman - Just when you thought we might be ignoring the Canadian contingent in Hollywood, enter Malin. And before you correct us, yes she was born in Sweden but she grew up in Toronto and you just know how much we like to claim entertainment talent - especially one with a future as bright as hers. While you might remember her from her brief but titillating appearance in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, it was her role as a skin-tight latex-wearing superhero in Watchmen that landed her on many a hot list. She’s got that lethal combination of girl-next-door innocence with a killer, butt-kickin’ bod…it doesn’t get much better than this.

Megan Fox - Although the actress has her doubts about her good looks (she thinks she looks like a man!), the rest of the world is pretty much in agreement on this one: Megan is a complete fox (we couldn't resist). She also represents, for good or bad, the new Hollywood sexy standard against which all new starlets are measured. She has three big movies on the way and topped both FHM and Maxim's Sexiest Woman Alive lists in 2008, so her star is definitely on the rise in more ways than one. Plus she's one of the most Googled ladies in the business and if she's that popular with fans, you can bet she'll be topping similar countdowns for years to come.
