Buffy

-- More Buffy..but where's Whedon? Perhaps this latest Buffy incarnation, following both the 1992 feature film starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry and the insanely popular TV show where Sarah Michelle Gellar played the titular vampire slayer, will finally answer the eternal question 'How funky is your chicken?' According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ass-kicking, quick-talking teenager will again hit the big screen, which, given the cyclical nature of Hollywood isn't much of a surprise. But the man who started it all, that would be Joss Whedon, has yet to be contacted about the re-launch, which won't likely feature the TV cast or any of the spin-off characters. The original film's director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, and her husband Kaz Kuzui, are working with Vertigo Entertainment on the latest tale of the pre-destined vampire fighter and are looking to reboot the franchise for a new generation, a la Star Trek. But effectively restarting the storyline without the blessing and/or guidance of the series creator is risky business at best and the interwebs is mighty nervous. What do you think about this latest Buffy spin-off? Tell us in the comments!

-- Tyson's daughter in critical condition Former heavyweight champ, and sometimes actor, Mike Tyson is hoping for a full recovery for his young daughter who is on life support after an accident at the family home. Four-year-old Exodus was found hanging from a treadmill cord, unconscious, by her seven-year-old brother. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they tried to revive the tot who is currently at St. Joseph's Hospital in Arizona. Police have said they are investigating but believe the incident was accidental: "Somehow the little girl got something caught across her throat, she became unresponsive, the boy went and got the mother, and the mother came out and found the child," said Phoenix Police Sergeant Andy Hill. Tyson has enjoyed an elevated public profile as of late, but this time for reasons beyond tabloid coverage. He’s the subject of a documentary currently in theatres, Tyson, which looks at his unbelievable life, in and out of the ring, and also has a cameo appearance in next month's The Hangover.

-- Mel Gibson: Octo-Dad Just when the image of his grizzly beard and bleary eyes started to fade from our collective memories, Mel Gibson's relationship woes have put him front and centre again, making him tabloid fodder once more since he announced his divorce from his wife of 28 years and recently revealed that he's going to become a father for the eighth time. While making his 21st appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” the host made digs about his much-younger girlfriend, who is 38 to Gibson's 53, and asked about the baby rumours. "This is true. We're gonna have a child. I guess I'm Octo-Mel," Gibson joked about his swelling brood. Gibson and girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, a Russian singer, are expecting their first child together. A rather probing and forthright Leno also asked Gibson why he thought his marriage failed and The Passion of the Christ director didn't hesitate to point the finger squarely at himself. "Look, when it's all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I'm to blame. If you're inclined to judge, put it here." Gibson’s appearance was part of Leno's last week on the "Tonight Show," where the host welcomes his all-time favourite guests.
