Each and every generation has a new crop of teen stars and starlets with their omnipresent gaggle of screaming fans but one wrong career move in an attempt to grow as an actor and those same youthful idols just might find themselves permanently out of the spotlight and off the map. Truth be told, the teen idol to serious actor transition is nearly impossible to pull off. For each successful Leonardo Di Caprio, there is a disheartened (and increasingly desperate) Corey Feldman. While some manage to choose wisely and, in some cases, build themselves critically-lauded and lengthy showbiz careers, the majority tend to be relegated to short nostalgic segments on “What Ever Happened to?” and “Where are they now?”
With the recent success of Miley Cyrus’ alter-ego, Hannah Montana, and the upcoming release of Zac Efron’s first big non-High School Musical role in 17 Again, we throw it over to you to decide who’s got the right stuff to stick around.
And the winner is...
Judging from the overwhelming response to this poll, many of these young actors and actresses have a very successful future ahead of them (or at least devoted fans who will be there to help support them along the way) but it ultimately came down to just two actors battling it out for the coveted top spot. Fans of both Rupert Grint and Robert Pattinson have been voting like mad over the past week and when all was said and done and the dust had settled, Rupert (and his Army) came out the victor with 8552 votes over Robert's 7711 votes. So it would seem that Rupert Grint is your choice for the most likely to succeed in establishing a long-term career.
The rest of the voting broke down as follows: Kristen Stewart (2491 votes), Emma Watson (1140 votes), Zac Efron (693 votes), Daniel Radcliffe (437 votes), Vanessa Hudgens (398 votes) and Miley Cyrus (171 votes).
Here's what just a few of you had to say about your two top guys:
-- lss: "Rupert Grint has the most natural acting ability I have seen in many years. If he gets the right parts, I see him winning an Oscar some day!"
-- wickedjo: "Rupert is just way out of everybody elses league in my honest opinion because he's done so many movies with some of the best actors and actresses in the business and he's just so natural and believable in his acting. It's impossible not to notice how he develops different walks and tone voices to each character he plays, he just becomes the character and makes us believe what we're watching. Plus the camera loves him, he's absolutely gorgeous and he's the most humble, down to earth young actor and he's always so nice to his fans."
-- youaremylifenowxo: "I think Rob's gonna have the acting career. Come on, he's plain gorgeous, he knows how to do a million different roles. And well, i think he's just the most perfect person ever. He's so convincing, and well, that's what an actor needs, right?"
-- Lesley-Anne Lawrence: While Zac and the rest have captured the hearts of teeny-bob america. Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Edward Cullen has mesmerized the 30 and 40 something crowd (and the tweens too). Kind of an amazing feat considering the subject matter of the movie...vampires? Seriously. I've been waiting for a while for the second coming of a young Mel Gibson and he looks promising."
See what else people had to say about all the choices!
Look for Robert in the Salvador Dali biopic Little Ashes and in the highlighly anticipated Twilight sequel, New Moon while Rupert is set to hit the big screen again in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and then in the indie pic Cherrybomb.
