-- Keira Knightley shines spotlight on domestic violence. The actress, and her frequent director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice), donated their time to film a public service announcement in support of Women's Aid - a British charity that promotes awareness of violence against women and provides support to victims experiencing it firsthand. The ad contains graphic scenes of her brutal beating at the hands of a boyfriend as the phrase "Domestic violence — isn’t it time someone called cut?" appears on the screen. Knightley issued a statement about the ad and spoke to her reasons for taking a stand on this particular issue: "While domestic violence exists in every section of society we rarely hear about it. We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening." The two-minute long ad debuts in Britain on Monday.

-- Sex and the City sequel gets a release date. May 28, 2010...mark it in your calendars, ladies! That's when the next big screen installment of the successful female franchise hits a theatre near you. Producers are keeping the plot details heavily under wraps but Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have all signed on to return. As Samantha would undoubtedly say, "Fabulous!"

-- ShoWest Honours the best in film. In addition to handing out their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Caine, the theatre owners festival presented additional awards to Michael Bay for Excellence in Filmmaking, Dennis Quaid and Rachel McAdams as Stars of the Year, Watchmen helmer Zack Snyder with Director of the Year, Zac Efron with Breakthrough Performance of the Year, Roger Ebert for Lifetime Excellence in Film Journalism, and Patricia Clarkson for her overall excellence in Independent films. That's a lot of excellence to go around! The gala on Thursday evening, hosted by Billy Bush, marked the end of the annual four-day conference.
