Wall Street

-- Gordon Gekko revisited Everyone's favourite conspiracy theorist/director, Oliver Stone has signed on to helm a sequel to the classic '80s tale of ruthless inside trading, climbing the corporate ladder by any means necessary and severely slicked-back 'dos. Michael Douglas reprises his Oscar-winning role as Gordon "Greed is good" Gekko and the ubiquitous Shia LaBeouf is in talks to join the Wall Street revamp as the naive Charlie Sheen character. Of course, the times they are a-changin' and Stone's second stab at corporate greed will take a decidedly different look at the economy, given the current circumstances. Watch for Gekko to eat his words.

-- SPJ gets more 'Sex' and now more babies Hot on the heels of the news that the (surprisingly) popular Sex and the City big-screen adaptation is getting the sequel treatment, Sarah Jessica Parker, 44, and hound dog hubby Matthew Broderick, 47, are planning their own part two when it comes to parenting. The happy couple, who dodged rumours of a potential split a few shorts months ago, announced they’re expecting twins girls via surrogate later this summer. Already parents to 6-year-old James Wilkie and celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary in May, the couple are said to be "happily anticipating the birth...with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed."

-- Russell Brand set to Drop Dead Fred...the world collectively shrugs As an admitted member of the Randy Russell Brand Fan Camp (yes, I just invented that term, feel free to run with it) I'm as surprised as anyone that the talented British comedian/actor would sign on to a totally needless remake. Arthur, I get. But a 1991 film co-starring Phoebe Cates as a grown woman whose life is upended by an imaginary friend with all the subtle charm of Robin Williams on a bender - why? Brand's flair for somewhat lewd humour delivered with a sneaking Cheshire grin hints that this remake could be more than the sum of its parts. Add in the fact that Dennis McNicholas, an SNL writing vet and scripter on Will Ferrell's upcoming Land of the Lost remake is on writing duty and Marc Platt (Wanted, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) is producing, and our hopes are ever-so-slightly raised - for now.

-- Ricky Gervais brings “Flanimals” to life One-half of the brilliant duo who gave us the visionary Brit-coms "The Office" and "Extras" is set to make the kids laugh in 3D when his children's book characters come to life. Universal Pictures have announced that they're developing Ricky Gervais' Flanimals - a four-book series that follows "ugly and misshapen characters" from far, far away - into an animated feature film, despite the fact that the best-selling series was originally scheduled to get the claymation treatment with an ITV 6-episode series. According to /film, Gervais himself will voice the lead character, a “pudgy, perspiring purple creature [who] goes on a mission to change the world” and is apparently enthused to finally be playing against type. Oh, that Ricky - always havin' a laugh!
