Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has proven that there's no, ahem, bad blood between herself and Summit Entertainment after she walked away from filming the vampire blockbuster sequel in December.

According to Variety.com, Hardwicke has been tapped to direct the fantasy-drama If I Stay for Summit, based on Gayle Forman's novel about a teen musician who's forced to choose between life and death after a tragic car accident.

When American Pie director Chris Weitz was announced as Hardwicke's replacement some months ago, it was widely rumoured that she'd been fired. Until, that is, she revealed the proposed 2010 release date was too rushed for her vision of New Moon and she declined their offer.

Still, this is the first very public proof that Hardwicke and Summit are on good terms, with president of production Erik Feig going so far as to say; "When we were thinking of the perfect director to capture the emotion, grace and passion of this beautiful book, one filmmaker became the clear and only choice: Catherine Hardwicke."

Forman’s novel is to be published this spring and foreign book rights have been sold in over 18 countries.
