Robert Pattinson

--Did someone say Twilight? Everyone's favourite teen vampire saga has topped yet another list. This time, it’s been deemed the biggest home release of the year in the U.S., selling over 5.6 million DVDs and Blu-Ray discs in its first week (!) of sales. Although it should come as no surprise that many a fangirl would want to enjoy Robert Pattinson's dreamy performance in the privacy of her own home, where pause and slo-mo will no doubt come in handy, the little film that could continues to defy expectations. And what of that chest-baring New Moon poster that had the blogosphere all atwitter yesterday? Turns out it wasn't an official studio poster but instead created by an imaginative and talented Edward admirer but something tells me Pattinson's fans won't mind too much. (IMDB)

--Bye Bye Hannah Teen superstar/mini-mogul Miley Cyrus is hanging up her Hannah Montana wig - at least when it comes to the big screen. The star of the hit Nickelodeon series about a girl leading a double life, makes her big screen debut as the titular secret pop star when Hannah Montana: The Movie hits theatres April 10. "We got really lucky with having the material to make one movie," Cyrus was quoted as saying. "I don't know if I would do another (Hannah Montana) film, but I would love to do another season." Cyrus will next be seen in a Nicholas Sparks-penned flick, he of The Notebook and Nights In Rodanthe fame, where she'll stretch her acting muscles playing someone decidedly unlike herself: "I have my issues, but not as bad as this chick," said Cyrus of the character. So many punchlines, so little time. (AP)

--How Alyson Hannigan Met her Baby Hannigan, one of the stars of the irreverent ensemble sit-com “How I Met Your Mother” and the dirty mouth behind Band Camp Girl of the American Pies, has given birth to her first baby. Daughter Satyana was born March 24, the same day as Hannigan's 35th birthday. Both mom and baby and dad, Hannigan's hubby Alexis Denisof, are doing well. The pair met on the set of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in 2000 and married in 2003. (People)

Watchmen

(Warner Bros.)

--Who watched Watchmen? Everyone! Director Zack Snyder has joined a club that counts Mel Gibson, Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan among its members, as he was honoured with the ShoWest Director of the Year Award. Helming the revered, genre-defining graphic novel more than 20 years after its inception was a hefty risk to be sure, but it’s paid off thanks to a favourable box office haul and mostly positive reviews, though even Snyder admits that fanboy criticism comes with the territory. Filming the unfilmmable movie with a steady hand and singular vision, Snyder definitely has a flair with graphic, grandiose epics (300) and even lensed a faux-doc called Tales of the Black Freighter for the Watchmen DVD release. --Barrymore and Long reunite - onscreen, that is When you get out of a relationship, the thought of bumping into your ex - awkward small talk, forced smiles, quiet judging - is never a favourable one. But Drew Barrymore doesn't seem to mind. The serial dater has signed on to appear alongside recent ex Justin Long (the Mac guy, He's Just Not That Into You) in a romantic comedy where she'll be starring as, wait for it, Long's girlfriend. The film, entitled Going the Distance, follows a young couple as they try to navigate their long-distance relationship and the highs and lows that come with geographical separation. Nanette Burstein is set to direct and if her previous efforts, The Kid Stays in the Picture and American Teen, are any indication, this film stands a fighting chance of rising above rom-com schmaltz.
