‘Slumdog’ star joins Woody Allen’s latest

Fresh from her star-making turn as Latika in the year's most feted film, Slumdog Millionaire, model-turned-actress Freida Pinto is next set to work with none other than Woody Allen, according to Variety.
Following in the footsteps of Diane Keaton and, more recently, Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz, Pinto will play muse to the famed auteur and joins a cast that includes Oscar nominees Josh Brolin and Naomi Watts as well as Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins.
Dubbed the "Untitled Woody Allen London Project" on imbd.com, Allen appears to be returning to Europe after filming his latest, Whatever Works, in his native New York.
In recent years, Allen has travelled to London to film his movies, including Match Point, Cassandra's Dream and Scoop, leaving behind his beloved city partly due to the hands-off attitude of his overseas investors, and set Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Spain.
Cruz recently won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Barcelona, the lushly-shot tale of vacationing American women (Johansson and Rebecca Hall) who become embroiled in a heated romance with a sexy Spanish painter (Javier Bardem) and his tempestuous ex-wife (Cruz).
Allen has also directed Keaton (Annie Hall), Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite), Dianne Wiest (Hannah and her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway) and now Cruz to Oscar-winning performances so it seems that Pinto's first post-Slumdog film choice is a rather shrewd one.
Whatever Works, starring Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood and Patricia Clarkson, is set to open in June.
