Fresh from what's been touted as the comeback performance of 2008, Mickey Rourke is keeping the good times rolling by signing on to Sylvester Stallone's latest action-adventure.

According to Variety.com, Rourke has joined the cast of The Expendables, written and directed by Rambo himself, and will play an arms dealer who makes nice with a group of rogue fighters seeking to overthrow a South American dictator.

Rourke joins Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture and, wait for it, Dolph Lundgren, who play the titular expendables. Sir Ben Kingsley and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker are rumoured to be in talks to join the ensemble cast.

With a Golden Globe nomination for his painfully stark portrayal of a wrestler trying to put the pieces of his life back together in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, Rourke has been pegged as a shoo-in come Oscar time but he hasn't forgotten to thank the little people, counting Stallone as an early supporter for casting him in Get Carter when work was scarce.

Rourke is also starring in 13, a remake of a French thriller, alongside Statham, Sam Riley, Ray Winstone and 50 Cent and will next be seen opposite Diane Lane in Killshot.

The Expendables is set to begin filming in Brazil this March.
