Hilary Duff

Lizzie Maguire is putting away her bedazzled microphone and picking up a gat when she takes on the role of infamous bank robber Bonnie Parker in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, reports Variety.com.

Hilary Duff, previous star of Cheaper by the Dozen (one and two) A Cinderella Story and Material Girls, has been cast in Tonya S. Holly's new version of the 1967 classic that originally starred Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in the title roles.

Holly - whose previous credits include a dramatic short and a full-length feature entitled When I Find the Ocean - has written a script and plans to focus more on the outlaw duo's backstory. As such, the film is not being advertised as a remake of the iconic Arthur Penn film but instead a fresh adaptation.

And just who will be Duff's Clyde? None other than Canadian hottie Kevin Zegers who captivated audiences with his fearless performance in Transamerica and who has since appeared in The Stone Angel and Fifty Dead Men Walking.

The Story of Bonnie and Clyde is set to film on location in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
