Kristen Stewart to play Joan Jett in biopic

Everyone's favourite angsty-teen-who's-in-love-with-a-conflicted-yet-totally-hot-vampire is set to slip into leather pants and don a serious fringe to play Joan Jett, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Fresh from a whirlwind Twilight media blitz, that included non-stop screaming fans, countless photo-ops and subsequent box office gold, Kristen Stewart will take on the role of the legendary rocker in The Runaways, a biopic that follows the rise of the titular '70s all-girl band that counted Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West, Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox as its members.

Formed in 1975 and envisioned as a novelty act tarted up in leather and lace, The Runaways proved themselves to be influential musicians during their four years together.

The film will follow the band's breakthrough and soaring popularity - with a hefty focus on Jett and Curie - and eventual fallout over management and money issues, leading to the group's ultimate dissolution.

Stewart is set to film the rocker biopic in between her other Twilight commitments, which are rumoured to include two sequels, the first of which, New Moon, could start filming in early 2009.

Hamilton, Ontario-raised music video director Floria Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and will lens the biopic, with Jett herself serving as executive director.

The Runaways is set to start production in 2009.
