Ridley Scott

Have you ever wondered how everyone's favourite real estate board game would work as a feature film?

Us neither.

But it seems that someone at Universal has envisioned passing Go and bringing Monopoly to the big screen, complete with a notable director attached, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Ridley Scott (Body of Lies, Gladiator, Alien), who had previously been attached as a producer, has been confirmed as the adaptation's director. But not to worry, official word assures that Scott will maintain a "futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic Blade Runner – dodged that bullet, right?

Apparently, marketing to a built-in audience makes these sorts of projects more attractive and lowers risk, hence the increased interest in making popular games into films.

Transformers helmer Michael Bay is set to produce a feature film based on Ouija boards while a Battleship adaptation is also in the works.

This can only mean that Girl Talk: The Movie and Snakes and Ladders (which writes itself, really) must be close behind.
