Meryl Streep

Hollywood royalty and multiple Oscar winner Meryl Streep is set to star in a film about a library cat from Iowa who forever changes the lives of the town’s inhabitants.

According to Variety.com, Streep is to star in an adaptation of Vicki Myron's book “Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World”, a true story about a kitten who charms the residents of a small town after it wanders into a library through the book-return slot after hours on a cold night.

Raised by Myron, the librarian, as much as by the locals, Dewey the cat became the library mascot (named after the Dewey Decimal System, natch) and was so beloved, its obituary ran in over 200 papers worldwide.

Streep is set to play Myron while Pamela Gray, who wrote the screenplay for Streep-starrer Music of the Heart, will pen the script.

Dewey is the latest project for production company Temple Hill, who are behind the highly-anticipated teen vampire flick Twilight and Jennifer Aniston comedy Management.

No director or other cast members have been announced.
