Natalie Portman has saved a romantic comedy by signing on as star and executive producer after Jennifer Lopez unexpectedly pulled out of the project, according to Variety.com.
The film in question is Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, based on an Ayelet Waldman novel to be directed by Don Roos (Happy Endings, The Opposite of Sex) which will star Portman as a young woman who finds the secret to saving her marriage in the relationship with her precocious stepson. Scott Cohen and Charlie Tahan will co-star.
The Golden Globe winning actress will serve as executive producer under her handsomecharlie films banner and is coming off her recent directorial effort Eve, a short film starring Lauren Bacall, Ben Gazzara and Olivia Thirlby.
Her interest in the script saved the film, according to David Molner, managing director of Screen Capital Intl. and the chairman of Incentive Filmed Entertainment, which provided funding for Love, a first for the company.
"We were left in the lurch by one actress and rescued by another. It goes to show that, particularly with independent features, nothing is more important than the talent," said Molner. "It's a blessing that Natalie loved the script..."
Love and Other Impossible Pursuits begins filming in Manhattan on November 10.
