Iron Man's best friend will look more than a little different in the upcoming sequel.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Terrence Howard, who played Jim Rhodes in Jon Favreau's summer phenomenon, is set to be replaced by Don Cheadle.

The Oscar-nominated actor will don the suit of armor to play Rhodes/War Machine in Iron Man 2 amidst talk that financial obstacles led to Howard being replaced.

And Rhodes is expected to enjoy more screen time this time around, with Marvel Studios fleshing out the character and taking it in a different direction. Justin Theroux, who recently penned Ben Stiller's big-budget comedy Tropic Thunder, is writing the screenplay.

Favreau has signed on to return as director and both the film's leading man, Robert Downey Jr., and his ginger-haired love interest, Gwyneth Paltrow, are expected to reprise their roles in the highly-anticipated sequel.
