Steve Carell

Steve Carell has made a career out of playing deluded buffoons, hopped up on their own inflated, and largely imagined, sense of power (see: “The Office” and Get Smart) making his starring role in the Napoleonic comedy, The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard, a no-brainer.

According to Variety.com, Carell has signed on to play Napoleon's bravest, but dimmest, soldier in a comedy based on stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The film will follow his exploits from Napoleon's rise to power and eventual exile, with John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (Blades of Glory) taking on scriptwriting duties.

Carell’s dance card is certainly filling up quickly. Among other pics he has to consider during “The Office” hiatus are a Get Smart sequel and a comedy called Date Night co-starring Tina Fey.

Brigadier Gerard is set to start production in spring 2009.
