Poltergeist

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? Vadim Perelman, it seems.

The Ukrainian-born director who lensed The Life Before Her Eyes and House of Sand and Fog, is in talks to shoot the Poltergeist redo says The Hollywood Reporter.

If Perelman does indeed join the project, he will be alongside writers Juliet Snowden and Stiles White who have already signed on to write the remake. Snowden and White wrote 2005’s Boogeyman and have been linked to The Birds remake as well.

The original Poltergeist was directed by Tobe (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Hooper and written by Steven Spielberg.

The production is infamous in Hollywood for a perceived “curse” that may have haunted the set and the films in general. Deaths and accidents have been attributed to the "curse". Actress Dominique Dunne was killed by her boyfriend, actress Heather O'Rourke died of septic shock, actor Julian Beck died of stomach cancer and actor Will Sampson passed away after suffering from kidney failure.

Other occurrences include actors complaining of pictures and furniture being moved, real skeletons being used instead of props and special effects on the site injuring people.

The speculation is that the “curse” was the result of the original production disturbing an ancient burial ground.
