John Lennon's story is headed to the big screen, under the direction of visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Nowhere Boy will follow Lennon's early years as a lonely child whose difficult home life is aided only by the cathartic powers of music. Matt Greenhalgh (who penned last year's Ian Curtis biopic Control) will take on screenwriting duties, tracing the isolated adolescent's rise to fame and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney.

Taylor-Wood, making his feature film directorial debut, plans to investigate how John's relationship with women affected him: "The women in John's early life truly shaped who he became and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film."

Casting for the lead roles has begun but no names have been attached to the project.
