Being a superhero sure isn’t easy.
Being a superhero sure isn’t easy. At any given moment, baddies are threatening to end your life prematurely, puny humans need rescuing and there are natural disasters to avert. Is it any wonder that heroes like ‘Hancock,’ in the new Sony movie of the same name need a Fortress of Solitude or a Bat Cave so they can escape the world and all of its troubles?
Still, there are some heroes who by design, personality or background, are just perpetually pissed off. So, for your consideration, we present to you our Top Ten list of the grouchiest, crabby, most ill-tempered super heroes of all time.
10. The Thing
Okay. Okay. It isn’t totally his fault. You might be a Crabby pants too if you had to live with that fiery prankster the Human Torch always setting your bed on fire or melting your eyebrows off while you sleep. Of course, if you looked like a pet rock and scared small children and animals with one glare, you wouldn’t be in the best of moods either, ever.
9. Daredevil
Much like Batman, it is Daredevil’s job to be morose and sometimes downright mean. How else would he scare the crap out of all those baddies in Hell’s Kitchen? Hey, if you lost your sight due to an accident, witnessed both your father and the love of your life murdered in cold blood, you would be a little angry at the world too.
8. The Punisher
Life has definitely not been a bowl of cherries for Frank Castle. It has just been the pits. His entire family slain by the mafia, Castle, a Navy SEAL and Special Black Ops solider, became a vigilante persistently breaking the law to punish the guilty. If he ever smiled, his face would probably crack like an egg.
7. Raven
Her dad is a demon and that should be enough to explain her cantankerous attitude. A core member of the Teen Titans, Raven is known for her fiery temper and many have found out the hard way not to cross the demon daughter.
6. Spawn
Speaking of demons, it is not clear whether former CIA agent Al Simmons traded up in the world when he agreed to be turned into an undead “hellspawn”; however, there is no disputing the fact that he is one angry hombre if you get on his bad side. Trying to free yourself from Hell’s control is not an easy or fun-filled task.
5. Lobo
Frag! A hardened bounty hunter by trade, "The Main Man" will fight anyone over anything at any time. A parody of Marvel’s "Wolverine", the brawling biker has fought everyone from AquaMan and Superman to Thanos and Despero. Someone give him some valium, a whole case would be nice.
4. Blade
Being a vampire hunter sucks, in more ways than one. There really isn’t any room for advancement and the benefits, well, what benefits? You walk around smelling like garlic all the time and the human race doesn’t even believe in the work you do. Part vampire and part human, Blade is an absolute loner who takes pride in a job well done but not in what he is.
3. Batman
Someone please give old Bruce Wayne a big hug...a really, really big hug. He so desperately needs one. All Bruce does is hang around a gloomy, damp cave and talk to flying rodents. Okay. Okay. There is that senile, doddering butler Alfred but he doesn’t really count because Bats rarely processes a thing he says unless it is something about which car to drive that evening, which bimbo left him ANOTHER message or which charity function he is skipping out on this time. In Gotham City, his only saving grace is all of his foes are far nuttier than he is.
2. Wolverine
Two words: Berserker Rage. Like his namesake, James Howlett (AKA: Logan), can be a bit touchy and emotional at times. Combine that with a set of unbreakable adamantium claws and you have a very, very dangerous personality who just happens to be Canadian too.
1. The Incredible Hulk
Hulk get mad. Hulk smash buildings. Hulk smash vehicles. Hulk smash puny humans. Hulk smash EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Nuff said.
