George Clooney has his sights set on the skies as the dashing thesp is in talks to star in Jason Reitman's latest film, reports Variety.

Up in the Air tells the story of a ruthless corporate stooge who unapologetically fires people to cut costs, all the while utterly consumed with collecting air miles so he can switch jobs and work for a mysterious company.

Though originally packaged with script work by Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) Reitman's keen interest in Walter Kirn's novel lead to him write 30 pages’ that showed his vision for the movie and present it to producers—including poppa Ivan Reitman. Having first visited Air five years ago— Reitman subsequently took time to focus on a movie you may have heard of called Juno— he recently completed the script and had it sent to Clooney.

Reitman plans to make Air his directorial follow-up to Juno and has recently completed producing duties on the cheerleader thriller Jennifer's Body, where he was reunited with Oscar-winning scribe Diablo Cody.

Clooney will next be seen in the Coen Brother's black comedy romp Burn After Reading, which has its North American Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
