Elementary, my dear Ferrell.

Comedian Will Ferrell has signed on to play Dr. Watson and Sacha Baron Cohen ("Da Ali G Show", Borat) will be Sherlock Holmes for an upcoming Columbia Pictures film.

Interestingly enough, Ferrell and Cohen appeared side by side in 2006’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby in which they played race car rivals.

The Sherlock script is being written by Etan Cohen who penned this year’s Tropic Thunder and episodes of "King of the Hill" in the past.

The untitled Columbia Pictures comedy is the second film to feature the famous English detective in the works. Director Guy Ritchie is working on Sherlock Holmes for Warner Bros.

“Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh,” said Matt Tolmach, co-president of Columbia Pictures. “Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious.”
