Don't need to say much about this movie, it was just simply incredible. Extremely well written and directed; the flow of the film made you feel connected to the characters and feel every bit of pain or happiness they experienced. Great music, great drama, great acting. Just great. If you don't think it deserved the award, watch the other movies and then compare - in my opinion, it was better than all of them.
Just watched this movie, didn't hear anything about it and went into it completely unbiased. Taken was so bland I had a hard time realizing I was watching a movie. There was little drama, and when there was, it was so poorly represented and cliche. There was no character development whatsoever, it seemed like the script was written overnight, and besides the half entertaining short action sequences, it was basically just Liam Neeson, playing a role he was not meant for, being an overprotective, know-it-all father travelling the world looking for his daughter, killing a hundred people and getting away with it. I felt like the people in charge of casting accidently called Neeson instead of Stallone and were too lazy to fix their mistakes. If you're a Neeson fan, stay away from this film. An hour and a half waste of time. 4/10
The Spirit was well shot, black and white contrasts were good. The comedy was decent but it was fairly slow and needed more smart and entertaining action sequences. Gabriel Macht did not deliver a strong role and the choice as him for the gig was wrong in my opinion. Jackson is himself, which some love and some don't, that's understandable. Johansson needed a bigger role and Mendes, although breath-taking, didn't seem at her best. The ending was the only thing that saved the movie from a complete let down, but that still didn't make it a desirable movie. 6.5/10
