This movie was balls-out CRAZY. acting, script? whatever. this is a comic book b-movie action flick. closest thing we're going to get to a Grindhouse-esque cult classic until 'Black Dynamite' is released. It's not Iron Man, Hulk or Dark Knight... and it doesn't try to be. To me, all this film had to do to surpass the Thomas Jane version was get the origin right, give Frank the clothes he would actually wear and become a ruthless killing machine.
OK, so it falls short on acting and writing... I'm gonna go off to the theater to watch this one again. If you were a fan of the previous film, you might as well just go on a cheap day/night--because chances are you're going to cringe at how badass The Punisher is in this film. Blood splatters, necks get snapped and people blow up. Stevenson does the most justice anyone has ever done to the character. think Steven Seagal action films from the 80's mixed with violence from RoboCop and Ricky-Oh.
I bet this film will do great on DVD/Blu-Ray... this is the type of film that turns into a drinking game. it's absurd... but great! bring your buddies! highly entertaining. one thing that annoyed me? the use of the title 'War Zone' when it clearly focuses on the Ennis series. not much from War Zone to be seen here.
[previous comments] 'War Zone' is my favourite series of Punisher comics... I always thought they'd be perfect for a film and what do I see four years after that 'alright' Punisher remake? and OF COURSE it's a different actor--it's a reboot of the series... it's not a sequel. hell, even Microchip is in it (played by Wayne 'Newman' White). If Thomas Jane really believed in this character enough to wait for them to turn out a script and make a 2nd film he would have stuck around but he walked. I have a feeling that people who liked the previous Punisher film with Jane haven't even read a decent Punisher comic (see: 'War Zone', Punisher: Max series). Frank Castle doesn't wear khakis.
