If this is the best that the Star Trek franchise can produce for the next generation, then Star Trek as we have known it, is done. Gene Roddenberry must be rollig in his grave with the release of this latest Star Trek movie. Labelled the "new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time", this movie lacks the telltale symbolism of space as the greatest and final frontier. There is no sense of adventure, no exploration, no discovery and no widening of horizons in this movie. Aside from the obvious reference to former character names, the linkage is poor. As all Trekkies are aware, the mission of Star Fleet is to go "where no one has gone before". This movie unfortunately goes where many have gone and is but a pale imitation of what has gone before. If this is Roddenberry's vision of the United Federation of Planets, with peaceful coexistence of many, then the Federation is no more. Hard to even recommend it as a rental - let along a "must see" in theatres.
